I work nearby and wanted to give Orchid a quick try, so I placed an order for pickup since I called and their delivery man car broke down. When I arrived and walked downstairs, I immediately thought, “Wow, this is a really nice place. Maybe I should just stay and eat. I asked if I could sit and enjoy my food there instead, but I was told that I would have to pay an additional charge to dine in. I found that a little strange, especially since I had already purchased my food and simply decided I wanted to enjoy it inside. That interaction definitely caught me off guard and won’t be going back the food wasn’t good and over priced.

I came to this restaurant and was not disappointed\! Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared\. The lobster with ginger and scallions is an absolute must\-try\. Although it’s on the pricier side, it’s large enough to share with the table and well worth it\. We also loved the chicken fried rice paired with the garlic string beans—such a delicious combination\. The General Tso’s chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the shrimp with lobster sauce was another standout dish\. Even the egg drop soup was comforting and delicious\. The restaurant was clean, the service was great, and the overall dining experience exceeded our expectations\. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for excellent Chinese food!!

Orchid Chinese restaurant 730 Franklin ave, Garden City NY 11530 ’ll be honest—I walked in already skeptical. Basements aren’t really my thing. I like natural light, higher ceilings, and a space that feels clean and well-kept from top to bottom. Unfortunately, this place didn’t quite meet that standard. Compared to many of the newer, more updated Chinese restaurants out there, it feels like it’s past its prime—a bit more of a reminder of what it once was than what it is today. I'm told it still does good business. God bless them! It's big and even has a party room but everything is severely dated. That said, if those details don’t bother you and you’re just looking for decent, local Chinese food, it’s definitely serviceable—honestly, even bordering on pretty good. There is ample municipal parking and it's convenient to the Long Island Rail Road. If you’re a local and want a quick, convenient Chinese food fix without going far, Orchid might do the job. But if you consider yourself a bit of a foodie and have other options (and most of us do), you might enjoy exploring elsewhere.

The Orchid is a Long Island classic. I've been coming here for as long as I remember and it has maintained the class and quality it has always had. It was my Granny's favorite restaurant and I remember it as a magical, mystical place coming in the 90s as a kid. As I grew up I learned to notice and appreciate things like their attentive service, consistently delicious food with quality, fresh ingredients, and the fact that they never seem to rush people out. My family continues to come here for special occasions. I went last night and was pleased to see that despite how long it has been there, it maintains it's classy, traditional Chinese atmosphere, but still doesn't look at all outdated or run down. The service is as kind and attentive as ever, and the food is still wonderful. It's great for slightly larger groups (we had 6 people) and the food is served with big spoons and extra plates so you can share family style. They are happy to make changes to dishes, and will even make you something custom if you just describe it for them (for example, my uncle got shrimp with brown sauce, broccoli, carrots, and snow peas).

It smells funny here as you go in down the stairs. The place felt a bit dated and even all waiters and waitresses here seems to be here forever as if they spent their entire life at this restaurant. Food was not bad but loaded with sweet and sour heavy syrupy souse. I would not return.
